An Introduction to Brook House Press

Brook House Press is the independent publishing imprint founded by psychologist and author Dr Denise Taylor in 2008.

Originally created to publish How to Get a Job in a Recession during the financial crisis, the imprint enabled rapid independent publication at a time when traditional publishing timelines could not respond quickly enough to changing events.

Over the years, Brook House Press has published career-related books, digital resources, reflective tools, and values-based materials exploring work, identity, and meaningful change.

About Dr. Denise Taylor

Dr Denise Taylor is a Chartered Psychologist, award-winning career professional, and later-life researcher whose work explores identity, meaning, and life beyond midlife.

With over 25 years’ experience supporting career and life transitions, she has written across both traditional and independent publishing. Her books explore work, retirement, wellbeing, and the evolving possibilities of later life.

Her doctoral research focused on how people find meaning after full-time work, leading to the development of ThriveSpan, a reflective approach to later life that integrates wellbeing, purpose, and personal growth.

ThriveSpan: Walking Gently Into What Matters Now

ThriveSpan explores a more conscious path through later life, where wellbeing, purpose, reflection, and personal growth come together.

Drawing on psychology, doctoral research, lived experience, and years spent writing and reflecting at a woodland in Gloucestershire, the book moves beyond narrow ideas of retirement as either decline or endless leisure. Instead, it asks what becomes possible when we begin listening more carefully to ourselves and to the life we are now living.

Written in a gentle, reflective style, ThriveSpan invites readers to pause, reconsider old assumptions, and imagine a later life shaped not by pressure or productivity, but by meaning, connection, and what matters most.

“A calm, wise, and subtle reflection on finding meaning and truth in later life.”
— Carl Honoré, author of Bolder
